We’re snowbound. Again. Being held hostage by all the ice and a bunch of people who can’t drive on said ice and a city that has absolutely no plan for removing it beyond “waiting,” as my hilarious sister-in-law/BFF Angelou put it, “for the sun to come out.” In the meantime, my kids are eating us out of house and home, bouncing off the walls, k-i-l-l-i-n-g me with the “I’m bored” and the “Can I.”

God bless their teachers one and all.

I do not know how they do it.

I promise you, I’ve kicked them out the house more than a coupla times. Nope I don’t care how cold it is. Get out. Do something. Rollerskate on the ice. Build a snowman. Take your camera out and get some pictures of nature in a deep freeze. Breathe heavy on the windows and draw your name in the steam. I don’t care. Just. Get. Out. And take the dog with you.

This is them being cute in the snow. Just before Nick and I locked them out the house.

Maybe we’ll let them back in.

Eventually.

@Teresha: ALL prayers welcomed and appreciated! LOL!

@Daree: I swear, I've NEVER seen anything like this. Like, how much does it cost to keep some rock salt around? I'm sure it's less than it costs to shut down the state for an entire week. I'd pay more taxes to get some rock salt and snow plows on standby. For reals.

  3. I'm trapped in Philly with a 3 y/o that doesnt want to go outside to play and I have to work from home today. What toddler doesnt love being in the snow? Oh yeah…mine.

    Your girls are beautiful!

@Nubienne: Oooh—the worst. My kids at least like the snow. But after four days, it's played like an 8-track. That's the trouble with this: I work from home, so snow days off from school feels like I brought my kids into work. Can't get NOTHING done.

  5. The teacher in my LOVES all these snow days. But the mom in me is ready for the school doors to open!

@Christie: SAY WORD. I've officially barricaded myself in my room. I'm not going out there. No ma'm. Uh uh.

  8. OMG! Where's my wine? Enough said.

  9. i was reading the comments and i couldn't help but laugh. im sorry everybody, but u haven't SEEN snow/winter until you visit montreal, canada hahahahaha. nothing gets shut down. city is still on the move. people still drive, and public transportation still run (slowly but surely). i must say though this year, we didn't get much snow but the cold harsh bitter wind is just as bad.

denene, your pics are beautiful. as always.

  10. Girl! You know I feel you! It wouldn't have been so bad if it hadn't come right on the heels of winter break; I had my fill of lying around and doing nothing (I don't do that very well at all). I love your photos; your dog looks like mine in the snow: "what the hell?"

  11. LOL … my sister and I joke that we don’t know how people in the South ever learn! Schools are closed for not just snow, but ice … I’d never heard of a SNOW DAY until I moved to the south.LOL
