Halle Berry Wants President Obama To Stop Paparazzi On the School Pick-up Line

Halle Berry is ticked that paparazzi got way too close to her and her daughter, Nahla, last week while she was picking her child up from school—so much so that she’s thinking about tapping into a higher power to call off camara-wielding star stalkers who harass and photograph celebrities: President Obama.

The Academy Award-winning actress, whose photographs sunning and funning with Nahla and her fiance, Olivier Martinez are a constant staple in celebrity tabloids, told Extra that there should be special child protection laws to keep paparazzi away from the schools that the kids of celebrities attend. Her call for the special protections come days after she was caught on camera outside Nahla’s school, cussing out paparazzi and shielding her face a the vultures set upon her and her kid. Her rant was caught on video and, of course, quickly posted online.

Halle told Extra’s Mario Lopez that she regrets the way she handled the situation, but that she over the harassment and fears her daughter and her fellow students could get hurt if someone doesn’t reign in paparazzi outside school grounds.

“I hate that I lost my cool, but you know, I’m human. That happens and when it comes to my daughter — I’m ferocious. There are no laws here that protect our children and as a mom, coming to the school… not only my child, but all the children that are there. It’s just wrong, wrong, wrong.”

“You know, I think I’m going call President Obama and say ‘look, can you help us I know this seems like a little issue right now, but it’s a big issue in our lives and our lives at the school and our children being protected.”

Considering moms across the country are looking to President Obama to fix a few more pressing concerns—better maternity leave laws, affordable healthcare for our families, the consistent unravelling of the safety net that helps moms feed and house their kids, the erosion of our reproductive rights—I’m guessing Halle was kidding when she said she’s considering calling the president of the United States on the paparazzi. But she does have a point: No one should be getting that close to her daughter or disrupting school pick-up for all the other kids who become paparazzi road kill while trying to get to their mom’s car.

I mean, I’ve been around paparazzi before—they’re a bunch of sleezy, slimy ruffians who don’t care who the hell they run over while they’re trying to get their shot. And I’ve spent years on the after school pick-up line, too—which, on the most normal days, can be  full of a bunch of sleezy, slimy ruffians who don’t care who they hell they run over while they’re trying to get their kid. Put the two together? *shivers* I shudder at the thought. (Wait, what? I said that, huh?)

Of course, Halle, who’s in a wicked custody battle with Nahla’s father, Gabriel Aubry and recently asked that she be allowed to move her daughter to France, could do what a bunch of other celebrities do and just hire a big burly body guard to block shots and knock out any paparazzi that gets out of line. President Obama’s got a few former Secret Service guys who could probably get the job done, so long as there aren’t any hookers around.

  1. Sigh. I’m tired of everything thinking that what we need to solve the problems in this country are more and more laws. Laws are not the issue here – paparazzi would not exist if people weren’t spending too much time obsessing over celebrities and their families, reading tabloids, watching gossip shows, etc. Our values, in general, have become skewed – and no law can fix that.

  2. I vote for a bodyguard…if I see any campaign for a law to protect celebrities kids from the paparazzi I will scream. Yes it is not right, but doesn’t that come with the territory of being a celebrity? Hey Halle, how about helping society change the IDEOLOGY of celebrities, then paparazzi will no longer want to stalk those who are simply entertainers and not little gods. Not sure how that would work though, since our society craves for gossip and star power like a malignant cancer cell searches for its next target.

  3. I feel for Halle. Who wouldn’t turn into Momma Bear when their child’s safety is threatened?

And I’m pretty sure she was joking about calling the president.

  4. I’m sorry, but how is this the president’s problem? I hope she was joking because our president has bigger issues to deal with right now.

  5. The only reason that there is a need for “more” laws is because humans are not able to control themselves and do the right thing. If “ALL” humans would we would not need laws to tell us how to act. For most of us this is not a great concern. No one is trying to take a pic of us when we pick up our children daily. But for the celebrities it must be harrowing to know that 5 days out of the week (at least) YOU WILL be fighting with the pazzi’s.
