WTF: Cop Kicks Pregnant Mom-To-Be In Stomach—Department Says He’s Justified

Just writing this sentence hurts me and pisses me off to the core: An Atlanta-area cop is under criminal investigation for dropkicking a pregnant woman in her belly.

Go ahead. Let that marinate.

Dekalb County police officer Jerad Wheeler says he was justified in giving an academy-approved “front push kick” to the abdomen of Raven Dozier, then almost nine months pregnant, because she was being overly aggressive while he was responding to a domestic dispute between Dozier, her brother and the mother of her brother’s child. Apparently, the officer didn’t appreciate her crying and screaming while he tased her brother—an act he said was aggressive enough to warrant a swift kick to the gut.

Wheeler claims he didn’t realize Dozier was pregnant because it was dark and she had a big shirt on. At least five different supervisors in the DeKalb County Police Department agreed and refused to investigate the incident, claiming that Wheeler’s actions were within department policy.

So, there’s department policy that says grown ass men with tasers and guns can drop kick pregnant women in the bellies now?

“I think he really just didn’t want me asking him any questions, questioning him, and when I did question him is when he kicked me,” Dozier told Atlanta’s Channel 2 Action News. “I was upset because I couldn’t believe an officer would kick me, with my child in my stomach.”

Dozier ended up giving birth via an emergency C-section two weeks after the   kick, which left an horrific bruise on her belly. Her now-4-month-old baby was born healthy.

Mark Bullman, Dozier’s attorney, has questions: “What kind of a human being kicks a pregnant woman? I mean, forget whether or not it is a police officer that is supposedly protecting people.”

Besides kicking Dozier in the stomach, Wheeler arrested the then-pregnant woman and charged her with obstruction of justice. Ironically, the jail where Dozier was transferred to reportedly refused to take her because she was obviously very pregnant. Charges against her were later dropped.

Dozier is not the first citizen to suffer at Wheeler’s hands. According to records Dozier’s lawyer dug up as part of the Freedom of Information Act, in the past year, Wheeler’s been accused of: manhandling a 53-year-old woman after she tried to check on her grandchildren, who’d just gotten into a car accident with their mom, and; shooting a dog chained in the garage of a family whose home he mistakenly responded to when called.

So let’s see: dude has a badge, a gun, a taser and a license to assault grandmothers, shoot chained dogs and kick pregnant women in the belly—all without repercussion? When, exactly, does someone step in, do their job, and sit Officer Wheeler down for a psych evaluation to determine if he’s fit for his job? Or even to be around the people he’s sworn to protect? Of course, we suppose someone in the DeKalb County Police Department would actually have to consider pregnant women, grandmothers and innocent dog owners to be human for all of that, right? Right.

  1. Absolutely unbelievable! All these bitter cops out there wielding their authority with reckless abandon. Dirty and disgusting!!!

  2. This troubled young officer is on the path to something very destructive. It truly is the responsibility of the DeKalb police department to sit him down before he kills, gets killed, or gets other officers killed. This is a dangerous game.
