George Zimmerman, the sorta-kinda neighborhood watch guy who stalked, shot and killed unarmed teen Trayvon Martin in a Florida subdivision in February, sparking national outrage over the racial profiling and repeated unjustified murders of black boys, is back in jail today after he had his bond revoked for lying about how much money he has in the bank.
Apparently, Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester, who is overseeing Zimmerman’s second degree murder case, didn’t appreciate being lied to by Zimmerman and his wife, who claimed in court in April that they were damn near penniless—despite that the two had collected more than $135,000 in online contributions to Zimmerman’s website. Their lie led the court to give Zimmerman a lower bond than the $1 million requested by prosecutors—allowing him to walk free after handing over just $15,000 in cash bond while he waits for his murder trial.
Prosecutor Bernie De la Rionda successfully argued on Friday that Zimmerman and his wife, Shellie, led the court “to believe they didn’t have a single penny. It was misleading and I don’t know what words to use other than it was a blatant lie.” The judge agreed and ordered Zimmerman to turn himself in on Sunday. The defense claims it’s all a misunderstanding, and that neither Zimmerman nor his wife have access to the money the two of them have been collecting from raving lunatics across the good ol’ U.S. of A. who think it’s a good and righteous thing to send cold, hard cash to people who shoot the crap out of black children for no other apparent reason than that they’re black and breathing.
Zimmerman sure doesn’t look like he lost any meals while he was away in an undisclosed location, eating right and watching his online donations pile up while Trayvon’s parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, grieve for their baby. Here’s to hoping that when George Zimmerman is prosecuted in a court of law, the jury takes into account that if he could lie about his finances—TO A JUDGE—chances are he’s quite capable of lying to police, his lawyers and anyone else who would listen about shooting an unarmed black child he and the Sanford police obviously thought no one cared about until we all went bat crap over Trayvon Martin’s death. #Justice4Trayvon.
