Christopher Columbus Day Protest: No, We Don’t Celebrate Murderers Who Got Lost

Nope, we don’t do Columbus Day. I mean, I’m going to venture over to Lenox Mall today because there’s stuff on sale and Mini Me needs some Fall clothes so that she can retire her summer shorts and tank tops, but really? The only thing we’ll be doing in honor of  Christopher “I Got Lost and Killed A Bunch of People For No Good Reason and Opened Up the Atlantic Slave Trade” Columbus on his big American holiday is looking up the truth about the devastation he wreaked on indigenous people, the lies that the history books tell us, and an action plan for learning the truth about who came before Columbus. We started this year’s Christopher Columbus “re-education” with this video, “Why Do We Celebrate Columbus Day,” courtesy of CBS Sunday Morning. Press play. Show it to the babies. Tell them the truth. And get with the Columbus Day protest.

  1. This post is amazing; in fact, I just shared that same yourecards image on my Facebook page, as I did last year and will most likely do next year. It was so great to stumble upon your blog this morning and see this, and I could not agree with you more!

  2. Thanks Denene for sharing this video. I will definitely show it to my kids and the truth shall set their little minds free.

  3. This was very powerful! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the very informative video. Being Canadian I never really gave this “holiday” much thought, but I’ve always enjoyed the sales. The video gives a thorough history lesson in just minutes…that’s awesome!
