Sigh. I’ve adored Rosie Perez since the day she popped and locked it in Spike Lee’s seminal film, Do the Right Thing. She is the quintessential New Yorker: loud, brash, smart, proud of her roots. And she won’t hesitate to check a b*tch. Which is why, today, I love her even more. The award-winning Latina actress teamed up with Actually.org to hit Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney with an uppercut for saying in his infamous, secretly-taped “47 percent” speech to wealthy donors that if he were Latino, he’d have a better chance of becoming president. In Rosie’s video, which I caught just hours before President Obama straight slayed Romney in last night’s political debate, Rosie Perez explains in only the way Rosie can why it’ll take more than being Latino for Mitt to win the election—and the support of Latinos. She’s not wearing boxing gloves in this one. But she delivers a powerful blow on behalf of Latinos and other Americans of color by poking fun at millionaire Mitt’s seriously ridiculous suggestion that if he were Latino, he would have that minority vote all sewed up.
“What if you were just a little bit gay, Mitt,” Perez cracks. “Think of all the advantages that would provide. No, wait for it … what if you had a vagina. If you were a gay Latina, this election would be in the bag for you.” She adds: “Unfortunately for you Mitt, you were cursed with the hard-knock life of growing up as the son of a wealthy governor and auto executive.”

Thanks for sharing this video! I am glad so many people are holding Romney publicly accountable. I hope the majority of voters are listening to the truths and not all the lies swirling about. I am worried. I think Obama will win but I am nervous because the polls show Romney is close. I am registered and ready to vote. I think I will breathe a sigh of relief when Obama wins and the election is over.
