American Idol season 3 winner Fantasia Barrino gave birth to a baby boy on Tuesday—a healthy, 7 lbs., 9 oz., 21 inches long son she’s named Dallas Xavier Barrino. The baby, whom she delivered in North Carolina after being on bed rest since October, joins big sister, Zion Barrino, age 10.
Through a statement issued to People magazine, Fantasia, 27, thanked her fans for “their well wishes and continued support,” and added: “I feel so blessed that my son Dallas Xavier was born healthy, and is a wonderful new addition to our family.”
Fantasia announced her pregnancy at a concert in August, telling the audience that she didn’t have to hide the child “God has given me.” Still, she’s been mum about the baby’s father, widely believed to be Antwaun Cook, the man with whom she’s been romantically linked since summer 2010. It was Cook’s estranged wife who sued Fantasia, claiming the singer broke up her marriage. Though a judge eventually ruled that the couple had already separated by the time Fantasia and Antwaun started dating, Fantasia faced a barrage of negative press and harsh scrutiny for her relationship—an onslaught that led her to attempt suicide in August 2010 and threatened to derail her starring role in the upcoming Mahalia Jackson biopic.
