linge shoes ballet flats

Totally Lila’s feet are pretty, but they sure ain’t dainty. They are long. And skinny. Much too big for patent leather Mary Janes shined up nice with Vaseline. Too big, too, for dressing up and prancing around in her mama’s size 7 stilettos. Still, they are just perfect for her: size 11 and strong. Sturdy. Cunning. With precision bordering on magical, they can kick a soccer ball through wiry legs and over anxious opponent heads, clean to the other side of the field. With a quickness, they can navigate 10-speed bikes around curvy park bends, with their owners’ twists flying in the wind.

Always with the wind.

Lately, those feet—pretty, long, skinny, strong—have found refuge in butter soft leather ballet shoes the color of a Caribbean ocean. Turns out they turn Totally Lila’s totally big feet into pirouetting pillars of sweetness and grace, particularly when Sam Smith’s “Lay Me Down” springs from the speakers and fills the room.

Lay me down tonight
Lay me by your side
Lay me down tonight
Lay me by your side
Can I lay by your side?
