MyBrownBaby Theme Music: Jill Scott’s “Hear My Call” Video

Oh, I know I know: It’s another Jill Scott post. What? I told y’all I’m a Jilly From Philly stan. From waaaay back. This truth ain’t new. But this video for Jill’s single, “Hear My Call” is. I told you a few weeks ago about her new album, The Light of the Sun, and my particular love for the single, “Rolling Hills,” a beautiful piece about a woman”s needs to guard her, um, assets. My other stand-out fav is “Hear My Call,” an incredibly moving ballad in which Jill makes a heart-wrenching plea to God to help her heal from bad decisions and relationships gone wrong and open her heart to a clear-eyed, everlasting love. The video spare, emotional, teary is exactly as I envisioned it. Jill, who co-produced it, hit it right on the nail.

I simply can not do the song or video any justice by explaining it, though. Watch and listen, and wave a church hand if you’ve ever been there before. I know I have.

Enjoy everyone and have a fine weekend.

And for all of my East Coast friends in the path of Hurricane Irene: Please be safe. I'll be wishing you nothing but love and light and lots of prayers that the storm passes you by with minimal damage to life and property.

  5. I have sang this song so many times in the past week. It reminds me of Open Up My Heart by Yolanda Adams. Perfect to sing when you are at the bottom and need Him to pull you up.

  6. I really like the simplicity of this. Jill puts it out there. I like that, love it actually.

This song went deep down in my heart and pulled the words I couldn’t find right out of it. I love Jill and have a lot of respect for her as an artist and as a person.

  8. I actually bought her album after your last post, and I am SO glad I did. This is one of my favorite songs, not because I can relate right at this moment, but because you can’t help but feel the emotion behind her words. And this video? She brought me to the brink of tears. It is perfect.

  9. It goes to show. Ministry is everywhere!
