Today is the day that Sparkle: A Novel, hits bookstores—happy publication day to me! I’m so very excited to introduce my 20th (!) book, a novelization based on the new movie starring Whitney Houston, Jordin Sparks and Derek Luke, who hit the big screen on August 17th to serve up a new version of the classic 1976 Sparkle film that introduced Irene Cara, Lonnette McKee and Philip Michael Thomas to the masses.
To read more about the book and how I came to author it, check out my post, “Sparkle: Introducing My Latest Book, Based On the Whitney Houston & Jordin Sparks Movie.” I also encourage you to check out my friend Tara Pringle Jefferson’s “She Got Her Own” column on Loop21, in which she digs deep into my work as an author and mother and gets to the bottom of how I manage to churn out novels and memoirs in, literally, weeks.
You can also check me out tomorrow night, August 8, 2012, on the popular 3 Chicks On Lit BlogTalkRadio show, where I’ll be waxing poetic on Sparkle: A Novel, the terrific screenplay written by Mara Brock Akil, my love for Whitney Houston and my career as an author, freelance journalist and blogger.
And finally, for my ATL folk: I’ll be signing copies of Sparkle: A Novel next Tuesday, August 14, at 7 p.m. at the Barnes and Noble in the Edgewood Retail District—1217 Caroline Street at Moreland Ave. I’ll be talking about the book, answering questions, reading and signing books. Come see me! Click here for more details.
And, most importantly, buy Sparkle: A Novel. If you’re a fan of the movie, you’ll appreciate all the extra storylines and details you did not and can’t get in the movie. It’s fast-moving, dramatic, funny, moving, heartfelt and, if I don’t mind saying myself, full of awesome goodness. Much like the movie, which I absolutely can not wait to see—particularly since Sparkle is totally in my Top Ten black movies ever and Whitney Houston is in my Top Ten Soul Singers ever and Derrick Luke is in my Top Ten Hot Chocolate Actors Ever and Mike Epps is in my Top Ten Comedians ever and, well, I’m a fan. I’m positive you will be, too. Happy reading and movie going! Sparkle!
