goodnight-mybrownbabyI promise you, our nighttime routine with my Mari is the stuff of legend—a nightly, sometimes hours-long ritual that was so fantasmic, so involved, so utterly tedious, that not even my kid, the one who created, spearheaded and demanded it all, believes it to be true. But it is. Oh, it is.

When Mari was a wee bit, there was the tub time, of course. Tooth brushing. Some hair maintenance—a twist or a cornrow or two. A bottle. A couple of squirts of “monster juice” under the bed and in the closet to keep the scary ones away. A few stanzas of Stevie Wonder’s “Ribbon In the Sky.” And, finally, a book, read replete with Academy Award-worthy showiness, inflection and dramatic page-turning to make the night’s final treat the one that would get her out of my lap and onto her knees so she could get through the “God bless Mommy, Daddy, Mazi, auntie, uncle, cousin Miles, my best friend Kai, Elmo and Barney” prayer, tuck her body under the sheets just so, and cross my fingers that she’d actually, like, stay in the bed.

Getting the kids down at night is never easy.

But I’ve got something to help get you over that nighttime routine hump. Introducing, “Good Night MyBrownBaby,” my new Facebook Live night-night stories for kids!

On the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, at 7:30 p.m., MyBrownBaby will host authors and bloggers reading children’s picture books to you and your babies on the MyBrownBaby Facebook Page. There’ll be dope books—smart, colorful, engaging, adorable, beautifully us—read. There’ll be dope people reading them. There’ll be time for a few questions if you or your baby have them for the author readers. There’ll be links so you can purchase the books with which I just know your babies will fall in love with. And prizes, because, yo, who doesn’t like prizes?!

I’ll be the first up, reading one of my girls’ favorite books: “Precious and the Boo Hag,” by Patricia McKissack, on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 7:30 p.m.

RSVP with your email addy or phone number to goodnightstories@mybrownbaby.com, and I’ll send out an invitation/be there reminder so you can get your babies together and ready for the reading—which will be really helpful so that I’m not sitting there reading to a wall. That would not be cute.

See you at “Good Night, MyBrownBaby” night on Facebook Live!

Oh! Here’s a cute video the Girlpies and I made for the sons of a dear friend of ours; it’s us reading “A Whistle For Willie” on camera for the babies. *Our bad that we didn’t turn the camera properly; we kinda suck for that. But it’s a cute story nonetheless and Keith and Maceo dug it, so there’s that. Enjoy!
